The Brightwood Bugle is Brightwood's student-produced multilingual newspaper that was launched on December 19, 2001. It was founded by Mr. Francis Yasharian, 3rd Grade ESL teacher, through a Washington Post Grant in Education to promote creative writing and language development, to provide our students with an outlet for self expression, to increase technology skills, and most importantly, to celebrate the wonderful things going on in our community. Under Mr. Yasharian's direction, students in the Afterschool for All program provide artwork, photographs, reports and original writing on topics that interest them. Students can write in whatever language they choose for the newspaper and all students are encouraged to submit pieces of any genre for possible selection. The Bugle was made possible through the Afterschool for All Program, the Washington Post Grants in Education, and the support of Ms. Fox, Ms. Carol Snowden, Ms. Helen Williams, Ms. Sarah Worthington, and the staff of Brightwood Elementary School. It is with great pride that we share with you our newspaper and we hope that you find it both informative and enjoyable.
